How to Run a Session
What is an Unconference?
MeasureCamp is not a typical conference — it’s an unconference. There are no pre-planned speakers or fixed agendas. Instead, the schedule is created on the morning of the event by you, the attendees.
At the start of the day, we unveil an empty Session Board — a grid of time slots and rooms. Anyone who wants to lead a session walks up, grabs a slot, and pins their session card to the board. That’s it. No lengthy applications, no selection committees. If you have something to share, you can present.
Anyone Can Run a Session
You don’t need to be an expert or a seasoned speaker. MeasureCamp sessions work best when they’re driven by curiosity and real-world experience. Some of the most popular sessions come from people sharing a problem they solved, a tool they discovered, or a question they want the room to discuss.
Sessions are 30 minutes and can run in multiple rooms simultaneously. You choose which sessions to attend — and you’re free to move between rooms at any time.
Types of Sessions
There’s no single format. You can choose whatever works best for your topic:
- Presentation — Share slides, walk through a case study, or demo a tool
- Discussion — Pose a question and facilitate a group conversation
- Workshop — Hands-on, interactive session where attendees follow along
Session Card
To claim a slot on the Session Board, you’ll fill out a Session Card. Here’s what goes on it:
- Session Title — Keep it short and descriptive
- Your Name
- Brief Description — 1-2 sentences on what you’ll cover
- Level of Expertise — Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced
- Delivery Style — Presentation, Discussion, or Workshop
- Subject Area — Technical, Analytical, or Business
Session cards will be available at the event. You can also prepare your card in advance to save time when the board opens!
Tips for a Great Session
- Keep it focused. 30 minutes goes fast. Pick one topic and go deep rather than trying to cover everything.
- Be practical. Real examples, live demos, and case studies always resonate more than theory.
- Encourage participation. The best sessions feel like conversations, not lectures. Ask questions, invite opinions.
- Don’t worry about perfection. This is an unconference — authenticity beats polish every time.
- Use a marker, not a pen when writing your session card — it needs to be readable from a distance on the board!
- Tag your card accurately. The level and style tags help attendees decide which sessions to attend.

First Time at MeasureCamp?
Welcome! Here’s what to expect:
- It’s free. Completely. Thanks to our amazing sponsors.
- You don’t have to present. Many attendees just attend sessions and participate in discussions. But we encourage you to try — it’s a supportive, friendly environment.
- Dress code is casual. Come comfortable.
- Bring your laptop or tablet if you want to follow along in workshops or take notes.
- Networking happens naturally. Grab coffee, chat during breaks, stay for the afterparty.
- The Rule of Two Feet: If you’re in a session and it’s not for you, it’s perfectly fine to quietly leave and join another one. No offence taken — it’s part of the unconference culture.
